Port of Chehalis Hydrogen Production and Fueling Station

FASTECH has partnered with public agencies and private stakeholders to help deliver a repeatable model for energy infrastructure. Located in Chehalis, Washington, the Port of Chehalis Hydrogen Production and Fueling Station is one of Washington State’s first hydrogen fueling facilities. Under development through Lewis County Transit, the site will utilize on-site electrolysis to fuel public fleets, reduce emissions, and support sustainable transportation across the region.

Scope of work

  • Support delivery of the end-to-end hydrogen production and fueling facility
  • Manage equipment procurement support, design & engineering, construction, and overall site development
  • Integrate onsite hydrogen generation equipment and fueling infrastructure

Key Milestones

2024

Project planning and interagency coordination complete

2025

Groundbreaking and construction begin at the Port of Chehalis

Q1 2026

Facility expected to become fully operational

Technical Highlights

  • On-site green electrolytic hydrogen production to support public fleet fueling, operating with minimal greenhouse gas emissions
  • Designed to meet strict safety and performance standards
  • Engineered to serve as a model for future hydrogen stations
  • Will supply approximately 750 kilograms of hydrogen daily to local municipal fleets
  • An additional 1,250 kilograms of hydrogen daily will be available for local public fleets that do not produce their own fuel but need hydrogen
  • Designed with future expansion and facility integration in mind

Impact

The project supports regional emissions reduction goals and will help public fleets transition to alternative energy. It demonstrates how federal, state, and local partnerships can accelerate the development of sustainable energy infrastructure.

Reno Hydrogen Refueling Station

Designed to support a fleet of hydrogen fuel cell buses, the Reno Hydrogen Refueling Station features large-scale liquid hydrogen storage and specialized fueling equipment to enable reliable, high-capacity transit operations. FASTECH is responsible for all construction and Balance of Plant (BOP) procurement and installation efforts, bringing technical experience to a complex hydrogen infrastructure build.

Scope of work

  • Lead all phases of construction, including demolition, excavation, concrete, masonry, electrical and mechanical work
  • Demolition, excavation, and underground utility work
  • CMU wall construction and equipment installation
  • Coordinate the installation of liquid hydrogen storage and fueling equipment

Key Milestones

July
2025

Demolition, excavation, and underground utility work completed

August 2025

Concrete foundations and CMU wall construction completed

September 2025

Installation of hydrogen storage and fueling equipment completed and ready for commissioning

Technical Highlights

  • 18,000-gallon liquid hydrogen storage tank, weighing more than 60,000 lbs
  • LH2 infrastructure designed to safely support hydrogen fueling for transit-scale fleets, with maximum on-site storage capacity and shorter refueling times

Impact

The project will advance hydrogen-powered public transportation in Northern Nevada while supporting long-term emissions reduction goals. It will also strengthen regional infrastructure for sustainable clean energy transit solutions.

Carson Hydrogen Refueling Station

The Carson Hydrogen Refueling Station is a fueling facility delivering hydrogen to the local community in Carson, California. The site includes station modules and storage systems built for long-term performance. FASTECH is leading construction activities and ensuring the project meets safety, quality, and sustainability standards.

Scope of work

  • Deliver construction services for a hydrogen refueling station
  • Complete concrete foundation work to support critical hydrogen equipment
  • Install compression, storage and dispensing systems

Key Milestones

5/30/25

Concrete foundation poured

6/9/25

Station modules and storage set in place

8/28/25

Hydrogen compressors and gaseous storage vessels installed and pressure tested

Technical Highlights

  • Concrete foundation built with more than 30,000 pounds of reinforcing steel
  • Installed hydrogen compressors and high-pressure gaseous storage vessels
  • Station design offers triple redundancy with 3 compressors and 3 dispensers, vs a typical 2-compressor/dispenser layout

Impact

The project expands local access to hydrogen fueling and supports broader adoption of alternative energy transportation. It also reinforces FASTECH’s role in constructing durable, sustainable clean energy infrastructure.
