FASTECH Builds a CNG Refueling Station for Clean Energy Fuels

91 Time Fill Spaces Created
A total of 91 time fill spaces were created, comprising 7 single and 42 dual k-rail time fill posts.
Enhanced Fleet Efficiency
Improved trucking fleet efficiency and reduced refueling time. Trucks can now refuel overnight, ensuring fully fueled vehicles every morning.
Installed Deep Foundation System
Installed 40+ augercast grout piles to support the equipment compound’s weight due to poor subsurface conditions and mitigate the risk of settlement.

The Project

The project is part of a series of sites being developed by Clean Energy Fuels to support trucking fleets for customers with large distribution centers. FASTECH was responsible for construction of the ground-up CNG refueling station, which will support both fast-fill and time-fill CNG fueling of tractor-trailer cabs and box trucks.

In addition to the two new fast-fill dispensers for rapid large truck refueling, a large portion of the property was developed as a parking area for overnight time-fill refueling. The time fill area will be able to support the simultaneous refueling of more than 90 trucks at one time over an 8-10 hour period.

The completed project will greatly improve efficiencies for the local trucking fleet and distribution network it supports. By providing the space for trucks to be parked while they refuel overnight, drivers are able to start each day with a fully fueled truck and eliminate the wasted time spent refueling during the day.

Why FASTECH?

FASTECH has worked with Clean Energy Fuels to build and upgrade dozens of CNG and LNG stations in California, Washington, Arizona, Kansas, and Oklahoma.

The Technology

The station utilized a system comprised of:

  • Four Clean Energy Fuels CNG compressors
  • Four motor control panels
  • Two PSB natural gas dryers
  • Three high-pressure storage vessels
  • One priority panel
  • One new dispenser canopy
  • A time-fill system including seven single time-fill posts and 42 dual time-fill posts
  • All ancillary equipment needed to support the new station, including a site emergency shutdown system and security cameras

The Results

The project broke ground in April 2023, was substantially completed in July, was commissioned in August, and opened for use in September 2023.

The project successfully integrated two essential schedules: the creation of a parking area with a stormwater detention system and the installation of CNG equipment compound and dispensing systems. The project was completed on time without any safety incidents.

This development benefits Clean Energy Fuels by providing a versatile refueling station that caters to both private time-fill fleets and quick-fill refueling for public and private fleets. Clean Energy Fuels' clients now have a centralized location they can incorporate into their fleet logistics and planning, enhancing efficiency and lowering long-term costs.
