ANGI Energy Systems has broken ground on its US hydrogen refuelling test facility in Janesville, Wisconsin.

The $4m project is located at ANGI’s headquarters and expected to have completed construction by July 2024. Once commissioned and validated it will potentially be used by third-party companies from early 2026.

A statement released by ANGI has said, “the station will play a pivotal role in the testing and validation of hydrogen refuelling station systems and components – including functional testing of globally standardised SAE J2601 refuelling protocols for gaseous hydrogen.”

The facility has been developed in partnership with specialist contractor FASTECH, who will now support an intensive three-month construction programme.

Expected to be the “first of its kind” in the Midwest, the station will “drive meaningful, long-term change in the transportation sector,” according to ANGI’s President, Joel Van Rensburg.

“By breaking ground today on the site of our new hydrogen refuelling test facility, we are taking the next step to accelerate the development and validation of next generation low-carbon technologies, forge strategic partnerships and encourage further investment in the hydrogen economy,” he added.

ANGI is now preparing to build and deliver its first hydrogen refuelling station order from Trillium Energy. Set to be installed in Santa Clarita this year, the station will be used for hydrogen bus refuelling.
